Gordon has accused the Tory Government of “failing” first time house buyers after a National Audit Office report found a plan to create 200,000 new homes resulted in NONE being built.
Announced in 2014, “starter homes” were meant to be aimed at those under the age of 40 and sold at a 20% discount. But legislation to take the project forward was never passed.
Gordon said: “This is an absolutely damning verdict by the Parliament’s independent watchdog. The Tories have completely failed to deliver affordable housing in their nine years in Government.
“I meet a lot of people in Blackpool, who are on modest incomes and in desperate need of more decent new homes to rent or buy, especially in the town centre area. The Government is woefully letting down many in Blackpool – they have completely let them down. This was meant to be a flagship policy by the Tories, but it has been a complete failure. You can’t trust the Tories to do what they promise.”
