Hundreds of people have shown their support to Blackpool’s hardworking and caring NHS staff by signing a special card to wish the National Health Service a Happy 70th Birthday.
Gordon Marsden MP, Chris Webb – Parliamentary Candidate for Blackpool North & Cleveleys and Labour Party members held a street stall in St John’s Square to celebrate the 70th Birthday of the NHS with the public signing an A1 sized birthday card. The card will now delivered by Gordon and Chris to the staff at Blackpool Hospital in the very near future.
Blackpool South MP Gordon Marsden said: “Everyone we spoke to on Saturday told us about why they value the NHS, but also stories of how it has either helped them or someone they know in a time of need.
“The creation of the NHS by the Attlee Labour Government in 1948 is arguably our country’s proudest achievement. But since 2010 it has been underfunded and under-resourced by Tory ministers. The people who signed our card in St John’s Square, recognise this needs to change if we are to have a first class health system that meets the challenges of the 21st century.”
Chris Webb, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Blackpool North & Cleveleys added: “It was amazing to see many people wanting to say their thanks to our fantastic local NHS staff across our town. They are nothing short of heroes. I want to thank them all for the tireless work they do demonstrating compassion in action every day.”
