Gordon's comments on August unemployment figures

Gordon has given his reaction to today's unemployment figures in Blackpool South, which have not seen much move over the last few months.

He said: "Today’s House of Commons Library figures for Blackpool South show 1,997 are claiming JSA, meaning claimant levels have been stagnant over the last three months. Youth unemployment has actually increased in the town from 400 to 416 claimants in the same time.

"The figures again show that the seasonal increase in employment we expect in Blackpool may have ended earlier than usual this year. Unemployment has been falling year on year but seems to be slowing up.

"We are not in a much better position than one year ago, with only 60 fewer people on JSA since then. This shows how shallow and inadequate the Government’s policies have been for both younger and older people in Blackpool."
