Gordon's praise for Blackpool and Fylde College at national Skills Show

Gordon, in his capacity as local MP and Shadow Education Minister has met with members of Blackpool and Fylde College at the annual Skills Show in Birmingham – the largest skills and careers event across the country.Skills_Show_2.jpg

He spoke with Kim Chambers and Andrew Hargan, both from the college’s Illuminate Training Solutions Team, to find out more about the work they did with regional companies of all sizes, and that aimed to develop a skilled workforce to meet next generation and existing businesses need.

Speaking from Birmingham he said: “It was great to catch up with members of the Illuminate Training Solutions team at the annual Skills Show and find out more about the positive work they are doing across the area.

“I think that it (the Skills Show) is a really important showcase for young people in Blackpool and elsewhere, in particular to get a taster and to have some quality time talking to and thinking about things. Just this afternoon, there were literally thousands and thousands of young people coming in.”

Gordon, who also spoke at a fringe event for young entrepreneurs praised the show for giving young people the opportunity to speak to other young people about their experiences in education and business.

He added: “That’s where the Skills Champions, and many of the younger exhibitors who have gone through the apprenticeship system in their own organisations or colleges, or particular companies and have stayed on are so important.

“They had young people on the stand who had been through the apprenticeship process and were then demonstrating and talking to people going round the show. So it’s the people who’ve been there, got the t-shirt brigade, which I think is a really important part of it.”

Illuminate Training Solutions Team offers National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), Foundation degrees, Professional qualifications, Short courses, Workshops and seminars, Bespoke training, Pre-employment training, Training specific to the local area, Apprenticeships.
