Gordon names his NHS 70 champions for Blackpool South

Gordon has named his NHS 70 Champions for Blackpool South.

He presented Paediatrician Dr Robert Wheatley (Care and Compassion category) and Alan Reid of Disability First (Person-Centred Care Champion category) with their certificates at the Blackpool Centre for Independent Living on Whitegate Drive. All MPs have been asked to name their local NHS champions as part of the 70th anniversary celebrations.

Gordon said: “Dr Wheatley and the team at Disability First are a credit to our National Health Service. It is one of our country’s greatest achievements and the dedication of our hardworking staff makes everyone incredibly proud of our health service.

“Alan and Disability First have built up and used their formidable knowledge of all aspects of Blackpool's social and health care challenges. Their expertise and bespoke support has made a big difference to often very vulnerable individuals getting their lives back on track.

“Dr Wheatley has been at the heart of paediatric care at Blackpool Victoria for over 25 years. A number of my constituents can testify for his commitment, knowledge and his caring attitude, which was why I chose to nominate him. He is also widely respected by other staff members at the trust.

“In the run up to its 70th anniversary next month, I will be doing a series of events to mark the occasion but just as importantly spend time thanking the staff who work tirelessly to help us get better when we need their help and care.”
