Gordon and Labour Party activists across Blackpool have been calling on the Tory Government to properly fund the NHS after joining in Labour’s “National Day of Action” in South Shore.
The Tories have been charged with hiding a further £22 billion worth of cuts through their Sustainability & Transformation Plans (STP) and Gordon fears this could lead to the loss of vital local services.
With national waiting lists at £3.9 million and A&E departments in crisis, Gordon and others have called on the Government to give the NHS and social care proper investment.
“Working with local members and trade unionists, we had a great response with members of the public queuing to sign,” he said.
Gordon has also written to the bosses at Blackpool Victoria Hospitals after it emerged they were looking to turn the estates department into a private company - a move that might affect the terms and conditions of around 200 workers.
He told the Gazette: “I’m greatly concerned by these proposals. The trust needs to be far more open about what they intend to do.”
